"No balls," I challenged. "None." I looked up at Pete and could see him pull into himself, but it was true. There was nothing here at home for us. New Orleans, no matter how rooted we were or how much fun we were having, just wasn't the place to (a)raise kids anymore or (b)make any kind of decent living. But Pete was SO not a risk-taker. No way he would pick up and move to Dallas.
Pete took a deep breath. "Okay, let's do it. Let's put the house on the market, and go. What the hell! What do I have to lose?"
Now it was my turn to gasp! Move to Dallas? How? Too many details, too much lifetime to leave behind, too scary! But "no balls" are "no balls". "OK, let's do it."
